For refugees and asylum seekers
We offer a safe place where people can be sure of a warm welcome, coffee, tea and conversation. You can be part of a community, a family. You will meet local people with a lot of knowledge and experience of Sheffield and the surrounding area. We help refugees and people seeking asylum build their confidence, improve their English and adapt to life in Sheffield.
For volunteers
It provides an opportunity to get to know people from around the world, to develop understanding and empathy with refugee issues, and to make a positive contribution. You can help simply by socialising and chatting with newcomers whose first language is not English, or join with other volunteers to support our programme of walks and trips in the summer months.
Activities
The Club offers conversation, refreshments, cards and board games as well as informal English classes. There is an arts table and during the spring and summer weekend walks, visits to museums and parks, and seaside trips. All newcomers whose first language is not English are also very welcome.
